Education Dept. Outlines Possible Changes in Accreditation, Distance Education, and Other Rules (Inside Higher Ed, January 3, 2023) The Education Department outlined in a series of issue papers released Tuesday how it would update the regulations for accreditation, state authorizing agencies, and other policy areas to better protect students. Department officials said in a news release that the Education Department wants to ensure accrediting and state authorization agencies hold institutions accountable.

Beyond Ohio University, President Glidden also chaired the Commission on Leadership and Institutional Effectiveness for the American Council on Education in Washington. Perhaps Glidden’s most enduring contribution to the future of higher education in the United States is his seminal work as the founding chair of the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.

Short-term Pell Bill Advances Out of House Education Committee (Higher Ed Dive, December 12, 2023) State and federal regulators and accreditors would determine which programs would qualify for the new grant. Democrats are also objecting to a funding provision that would block private colleges with large endowments from offering federal student loans.
