Budget Negotiators Reject Cuts to Education (Columbia Daily Tribune, May 7, 2018) “Public higher education institutions received almost everything they wanted from the House-Senate budget conference, with core budgets that won’t be cut from current levels and extra funds for major initiatives to $2 million to prevent a loss of accreditation at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
“The university is under scrutiny from accreditors who visited this spring for an interim evaluation, President Dwuan Warmack said. The school is short of full-time faculty, mental health counselors and nurses on campus, he said. The funding request would hire six faculty and help meet other needs.”

May 7, 2018) “Cape Fear Community College recently announced James Morton as its new president, but did the school follow the correct process in selecting him? The Southern Association of Colleges and the Schools Commission on Colleges is requesting CFCC Trustees turn over details on how they selected Morton.”
How For-Profits’ Conversion to Nonprofits Will Up-Ed Higher Education (The Federalist, May 4, 2018) “If regulators pursue former for-profits with the same zeal after they become nonprofits, they risk being required to evaluate traditional colleges according to the same standards.”
