Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer filed cloture on the nomination of James Kvaal to be undersecretary of Education, the top official overseeing higher education and student aid. The Senate agreed to take up the procedural vote on his nomination when it returns from recess in mid-September.”

Arkansas to Expand Online with Grantham Acquisition (Inside Higher Ed, August 11, 2021) “The University of Arkansas system is poised to acquire the online, for-profit Grantham University if the system Board of Trustees approves the deal, as expected. If the system board votes to approve the acquisition deal, the Grantham board of directors and the board of the Level Playing Field Corp. -- Grantham's owner -- will need to green light the transaction. The plan also hinges on approval from the Distance Education Accreditation Commission, Grantham’s accreditor.”

Barber-Scotia College Is at Best About a Decade Away from Accreditation (Independent Tribune [NC], August 5, 2021) "Barber-Scotia College is at a minimum eight years away from accreditation, despite public comments from college officials stating it is only a few years away. The college, which was first a female seminary in 1867, lost its accreditation in 2004 with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)."
