CHEA Welcomes Four New Members to its Board of Directors (CHEA.org, July 1, 2024) The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) announced that Jonathan Gueverra, Ed.D., Michael Horowitz, Ph.D., Eduardo M. Ochoa, Ph.D., and DeRionne P. Pollard, Ph.D., have joined CHEA’s Board of Directors.

Supreme Court Decision Weakens U.S. Department of Education (Inside Higher Ed, July 2, 2024) Over the last 16 years, both parties' presidential administrations have wielded the Education Department's power to reshape the federal government’s role in higher education. They’ve retooled accreditation rules. What might happen to this Spring’s batch of negotiated rules that deal with accreditation and state authorization is uncertain.

Universities Try 3-Year Degrees to Save Students Time and Money (The Daily Montanan, June 30, 2024) Some pioneering state universities are exploring programs that would grant certain bachelor’s degrees in three years. More than a dozen public and private universities are participating in a pilot collaboration called the College-in-3 Exchange to begin considering how they could offer three-year programs. Once created, individual programs need national accreditation and state Board of Higher Education approval.
