ChatGPT likely means we do not need 120 credit hours of instruction across all disciplines at the undergraduate level. Accreditation bodies will likely need to rethink how student workload is calculated and make the time it takes to get an undergraduate bachelor’s degree shorter for some disciplines.

OfS Takes England’s Quality Role after QAA Delisted (Times Higher Education, March 30, 2023) The Office for Students (OfS) will take over as England’s higher education quality assessment body following the withdrawal of the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the government has confirmed. The decision follows the QAA’s announcement in July 2022 that it wished to stop assessing higher education providers in England amid concerns over non-compliance with European standards in the new regulatory approach.

Idlib Universities: Accreditation by Education-Quality Associations, Hope for Degree Recognition (Enabbaladi.net, April 4, 2023) The Delaware-based QAHE announced it had reached a memorandum of understanding with the Higher Education Council in northern Syria for mutual recognition and strategic cooperation to enhance international accreditation. Recognition includes exchanging scientific and academic experiences with the Higher Education Council, promoting scientific research, publishing, studies, and a culture of quality assurance between the two parties.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Chairs Brainstorming Session on Accreditation and Ranking Systems (Indian Express, March 23, 2023) Former ISRO Chairman Dr Radhakrishnan K Koppillil, senior officials from UGC, AICTE and NETF were present at the session. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday chaired a brainstorming session on the latest developments in the accreditation and ranking systems. The discussion included transformative reforms to strengthen HEIs (higher education institutions) across the country.
