QAA Optimistic for Hong Kong HE Market, Despite Demographics (The Pie News, August 7, 2018) "[The UK’s Quality Assurance Agency] (QAA) reviewed the academic quality and standards of 14 Hong Kong/UK partnerships. ‘UK higher education is extremely popular in Hong Kong, and universities at home have been quick to meet the demand for top-up degrees as well as successfully exporting the more traditional full degree programs,’ QAA’s international manager Fabrizio Trifiro said.”
Okojie Seeks Quality Assurance for Varsities (Punch, August 2, 2018) “Former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, said regulators such as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, professional bodies, civil society organisations and external quality agencies such as the International Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education, Nordic Network of Quality Assurance Agencies and African Quality Assurance Network had been assisting [Nigeria’s] universities in its quality assurance initiatives.”
Bilateral Cooperation: Mauritius and Kenya to Sign Several Memoranda of Understanding (Republic of Mauritius News, July 31, 2018) “The Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research of Mauritius and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kenya will sign an MoU for collaboration in Higher Education and Scientific Research. The areas of cooperation for higher education would include, amongst others, mutual recognition and equivalence of qualifications, inter-university linkage, staff and student exchanges, accreditation and quality assurance.”
Chandra: Quality a Priority for University (Fiji Sun Online, July 27, 2018) “The President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific (USP), Professor Rajesh Chandra, said the most important recent validation of their quality was the fact that USP had now been accredited by the American accrediting agency, WASC Senior College and University Commission. ‘This accreditation is different from the accreditation of particular programmes because it is the accreditation of USP as a whole and with this our programmes will be recognised in the US,’ he said.”

Ministry: Violating Universities to Face Legal Action (Bahrain News Agency, July 25, 2018) “The [Bahrain] Higher Education Council’s Secretariat-General, ever since the issuance of the Higher Education Law in 2005, verifies the scientific qualifications issued by higher education establishments in Bahrain, as well as the marks, reports and certificates of the host universities. It also refuses to accredit any suspicious degree, and refers them to the Public Prosecution and the competent authorities to take the necessary legal actions against them.”
Seven Questions You Should Ask Before Enrollment (Khaleej Times [United Arab Emirates], July 25, 2018) “Some establishments are accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE, while others are recognised by overseas education bodies. In case you plan on applying for postgraduate courses abroad or want to work in a private organisation, ensure that your degree is internationally recognised.”
