Pine Manor College to Merge With Boston College (Inside Higher Ed, May 14, 2020) “If accreditors and state agencies approve the merger, Boston College will assume responsibility for Pine Manor and its assets and liabilities. Pine Manor's students will be able to remain at the institution as part of a two-year teach-out agreement, the release said. BC will subsidize Pine Manor's cost of operations during that period.”

Paine College Loses Accreditation Appeal (Inside Higher Ed, May 11, 2020) “Paine College in Augusta, Ga., lost its appeal to keep its accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, WJBF reported. The historically black college was stripped of its accreditation in 2019. It appealed the decision, citing irregularities of due process. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that Paine could not adequately prove technical errors in the accreditor's review process.”
U.S. Higher Education: Too Big Not to Fail? (Forbes, May 8, 2020) “Making state accreditation sufficient for receipt of Title IV funding would break the grip of the regional accrediting bodies, which too often have acted as gatekeepers for the higher-education cartel—blocking entrance of alternative modes of education and therewith stifling needed innovation.”
Wells College May Shut Down If Students Can't Return in the Fall (Auburnpub.com, May 8, 2020) “College President Jonathan Gibralter this week sent a letter to the college community warning that if students cannot return to campus this fall, the historic college in Aurora would have to shut down. Wells College's coronavirus-related challenges have also complicated its efforts to to secure re-accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which placed the school on probation in June 2019.”
