U.S. Senate Confirms Assistant Secretary For Postsecondary Education

On August 4, 2022, Dr. Nassar Paydar was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the U.S. Department of Education's (USDE) Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education. The Assistant Secretary is USDE's senior position in the Office of Postsecondary Education, which oversees higher education. Dr. Paydar was nominated on March 18, 2022 (see Federal Update #100). 

Dr. Paydar has more than 35 years of higher education experience. He is Chancellor Emeritus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indiana (IUPUI) and also served as Executive Vice President of Indiana University. He has held a variety of faculty and university leadership positions, including serving as Chief Academic Officer of IUPUI, Vice Chancellor and Dean of Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus and Chancellor of Indiana University East.

In remarks congratulating Dr. Paydar on his confirmation, U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said, "Dr. Paydar brings to the U.S. Department of Education more than three-and-a-half decades of experience as a university leader and educator....
