CHEA Participates in Asia-Pacific Quality Network Conference

Jan FriisIn November, Jan Friis, Senior Vice President for Government Relations at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, participated in the Asia-Pacific Quality Network meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The conference was hosted by The American International University of Bangladesh. The gathering meeting consisted of representatives from the quality assurance agencies of the Asia-Pacific region.

“It was exciting to see several CIQG advisory council members in attendance and participating at that meeting, said Friis. “The dedication and commitment to higher education quality assurance by the members of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network was notable and impressive.”

Friis served as a keynote speaker at the event, delivering an address titled, “Innovation and Sustainable Development in Higher Education.” Friis discussed the pressing need for improved and expanding education delivery methods and educational attainment. This includes advocating for credit recognition for competency-based education, credit for prior learning, stackable micro-credentials, reverse credit transfer to obtain credentials, dual enrollment opportunities for high school students, and other higher education modalities. 

During the conference, it was confirmed that the Asia-Pacific Quality Network continues to use the CIQG Quality Principles in evaluating institutions before they become members of the Asia Pacific Quality Network.

As part of the conference program, students from the American International University of Bangladesh, performed traditional folk songs from their country, accompanied by dancers from the institution who showcased traditional folk dances. This cultural representation by students added a refreshing and vibrant dimension to the conference.
